Somewhere between tranquility and turmoil lyrics

Train wreck

written by E. Glaubitz

There’s a road sign

Telling me to turn away

Danger straight ahead

But I disregard it

Enticed by curiosity

Got to see for myself

Well there she is now

Looking so beautiful

How can these warnings be true

But as I get closer

I find out it is far worse

Than anything I’d ever seen, ever seen, ever seen

She’s a little train wreck

But every time I see her I can’t look away

I’m captivated by this little train wreck

And everybody says that she is crazy

All this drama

That she brought upon herself

Could fill a thousand books

Was a bystander

But I’ve been dragged into her world

And now I find I can’t escape, can’t escape, can’t escape

She’s my little train wreck

Every time I see her I can’t look away

I’m captivated by this little train wreck

And everybody says that I am crazy

She slaps on the track aphrodisiac

Then attacks with the crack of a pontiac

I snack and I wrack this maniac

Rattlesnake, cornflake and a body shaking

Then she quakes in the wake of the undertaking

Then bellyaches this big mistake

Her soap opera

Of which I was a cameo

I’m becoming the leading man

Got to get out

Before I get in way too deep

And become another casualty, casualty, casualty

She’s my little train wreck

Every time I see her I can’t look away

I’m captivated by this little train wreck

And everybody says that we are crazy

She’s my little train wreck

Every time I see her I’ve got to run away

But I’m captivated by this little train wreck

And lord knows that this is all way too crazy

The one

written by E. Glaubitz

Could it be the wine

Or have I lost my mind

Why am I sitting here with you?

But as I taste your lips

I can’t resist

Even after all we’ve been through

Hey, you keep breaking the old heart

When you pull me close only to run away

Hey, through all those selfish lies

Both yours and mine, one truth still remains

That you were the one for me

And I was the one for you

You touch my face

Then plead your case

Why I should take you back

I’ve built this wall

To keep me strong

But I feel it start to crack

Hey, I listen to your words

Then wipe away the tears from your eyes

Hey, I still don’t understand why

We have to lose it all before we realize

That you were the one for me

And I was the one for you

I’m angry (so angry)

I’m hurting (oh, I'm hurting)

But I’m still in love (you know I can't escape this love)

It’s useless (so useless)

I’m helpless (oh, so helpless)

I’m still in love

Hey, where can we go from here

We’ve been down this road so many times before

Hey, if we try this yet again

How long will it take till we both ignore

That you are the one for me

And I am the one for you

You are the one for me

And I am the one for you

It's good to be alive

written by E. Glaubitz

Lover, lover walk with me

Take my hand and comfort me

Help me face this foreigner

That quickly grows inside

Threatening to take my life

Doctor, doctor please fix me

Cut away this misery

Strapped to a cross shaped table

Surrounded yet alone

Then I wake to find the pain is gone

…And now a better day

My smile returns

As just a scar remains

I am reborn

It’s good to be alive

It’s good to be alive

River, river take me home

Find the child I once was

Not a care or a worry

No cloud over me

Just living every moment so free

…And now a better day

My smile returns

As just a scar remains

I am reborn

It’s good to be alive

It’s good to be alive

It’s good to be alive

It’s good to be alive

I don't want to write this song

written by E. Glaubitz

Sitting with eyes swollen

Alone with my guitar because you’ve gone

You’ve gone

It seems all too familiar

Painting these emotions of broken love

Our broken love

Haven’t I written this for you

Enough times before

Hey, take these words

Tear them from the page

I don’t want to write this song again

Take this heart

Spare it all the pain

I don’t want to write this song again

We’ve paved this long road together

At times so beautiful, at times so sad

Oh, so sad

Still we tried yet again

To build upon the shattered past we’ve had

We’ve had

Now I’m digging in fresh wounds

To find these lines

Hey, take these words

Tear them from the page

I don’t want to write this song again

Take this heart

Spare it all the pain

I don’t want to write this song again

No matter how many years go by

This song will bring me back in time

And peal away the layers that have shielded me

From all this hurt I feel right now

I feel right now

Hey, take these words

Tear them from the page

I don’t want to write this song again

Take this heart

Spare it all the pain

I don’t want to write this song again

No pushy pushy con no plastica

written by E. Glaubitz

Went to Tamirindo to buy some love

She said I had to wear a glove

I told her I had nothing on me

To put on my salami

She said:

No pushy pushy con no plastica

No pushy pushy con no plastica

If you ain’t got a coat

Just make it with a goat

No pushy pushy con no plastica

I got down on my hands and knees

And I started begging please

She said don’t waste another word

Just go and choke your own bird

No pushy pushy con no plastica

No pushy pushy con no plastica

If you ain’t got a coat

Just make it with a goat

No pushy pushy con no plastica

I came to town without a clue

Now I leave with my boys still blue

So if you want to have a good time

You better memorize these lines

No pushy pushy con no plastica

No pushy pushy con no plastica

If you ain’t got a coat

Just make it with a goat

No pushy pushy con no plastica

I still haven't found what I'm looking for

written by Reina, Clayton, Evans, Hewson and Mullen

I have climbed highest mountains

I have run through the fields

Only to be with you

Only to be with you

I have run

I have crawled

I have scaled these city walls

These city walls

Only to be with you

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

I have kissed honey lips

Felt the healing fingertips

It burned like a fire

This burning desire

I have spoke with a ton of angels

I have held the hand of a devil

It was warm in the night

I was cold as a stone

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

I believe in the Kingdom Come

When all the colors will bleed into one

Bleed into one

Well, yes I'm still running

You broke the bonds

And you loosened the chains

Carried the cross

Of all my shame

all my shame

You know I believe it

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

Sail on

written by E. Glaubitz

Telephone is ringing, ringing in my mind

I fell asleep last night to your voice on the line

The plans we made may never be

But still they play out in a dream

Telephone is ringing, calling out to me

Singing…

Sail on, sail on

On the river of my heart

Sail on, sail on

A little getaway

Sail on, sail on

On the ocean of this love we feel inside

I know that we running, running out of time

The future is determined and the present is on the line

So let’s jump this path of destiny

For a day or two, just you and me

Telephone is ringing, calling out to me

Singing…

Sail on, sail on

On the river of your heart

Sail on, sail on

A little getaway

Sail on, sail on

On the ocean of this love we feel inside

And if this is the end

We can indulge one last time

As the passion burns in us

We will melt the nighttime

Create a memory

That will last forever

Stay with us forever

Telephone is ringing, it’s you calling out to me

Singing…

Sail on, sail on

On the river of my heart

Sail on, sail on

A little getaway

Sail on, sail on

On the ocean of this love we feel inside

On the ocean of this love we feel inside

Then the sun will set as we say goodbye

The greatest love I never had

written by E. Glaubitz

I’m staring at the memory

Of the moonlight on your face

Your eyes confessed unspoken words

As you took my breath away

All those sleepless nights I thought of you

As you did the same of me

Seems so foolish as I reminisce

That it never came to be

Now it’s over, it’s over

Just as I was falling for you

And I’m left with dreams of what could have been

What should have been

We never, no never

Had a chance to write our story

Now looking back I see

You were the greatest love

The greatest love I never had

Remember kissing your forbidden lips

So lost inside your gaze

We barely even realized

We were standing in the rain

But the guilt had overtaken you

Before this flower could take hold

And the ring that you had hid away

Was back where it belonged

Now it’s over, it’s over

Just as I was falling for you

And I’m left with dreams of what could have been

What should have been

We never, no never

Had a chance to write our story

Now looking back I see

You were the greatest love

The greatest love I never had

If we could rewind back in time

When our lives were still untied

We would rewrite history forever

Together

But it’s over, it’s over

Just as I was falling for you

And I’m left with dreams of what could have been

What should have been

We never, no never

Had a chance to write our story

Now looking back I know

You were the greatest love

The greatest love I never had

The greatest love I never had

Rain

written by J. Lennon and P. McCartney

If the rain comes they run and hide their heads

They might as well be dead

If the rain comes, if the rain comes

When the sun shines they slip into the shade

And sip their lemonade

When the sun shines, when the sun shines

Rain, I don't mind

Shine, the weather's fine

I can show you that when it starts to rain

Everything's the same

I can show you, I can show you

Rain, I don't mind

Shine, the weather's fine

Can you hear me, that when it rains and shines

It's just a state of mind

Can you hear me, can you hear me?

Let it Rain

Let it Rain

Rain

Glass sky

written by E. Glaubitz

You shook it in your hands

And watched the snowflakes fall

You yearned as a child

To live inside its perfect walls

Be careful of the things you wish for

they may come true

You were raised on the idea

to wed the easy life

So you suffocate your ambition

To be the perfect wife

You are living someone’s dream

But it’s not your own

You know it’s time to finally let go

Find the strength to shed your halo

You’ve got to fly

You’ve got to fly

Cracks are forming in the air

As you leap without a care

So fly through your glass sky

You climb up on the roof

In your favorite yellow gown

And gaze upon the tranquility

of your pristine little town

You reach out to a shooting star

as it races by

So if you want to breathe some freedom

You want to touch what you’ve been dreaming

You’ve got to fly

You’ve got to fly

Cracks are forming in the air

As you leap without a care

So fly through your glass sky

You stretch your arms out to the side

And tightly close your eyes

You lean your body forward

And whisper your goodbyes

You feel the rush upon your skin

Your hair flowing in the wind

Your life has just begun

You’ve got to fly

You’ve got to fly

Cracks are forming in the air

As you leap without a care

So fly through your glass...

Through your glass sky

Fugitive

written by E. Glaubitz

I feel like a fugitive

As I hide from the love you give

Cause I stole your heart away and ran

Well, we had such a romance

It burned hot, but had no chance

Then after months apart

We tried our hand at being friends

Was it a mistake

When we broke down and made love?

Broke down and made love?

It wouldn’t change anything

We thought we both could handle it

We both could handle it

Looking back I see that we were wrong

Now I feel like a fugitive

As I hide from the love you give

Cause I stole your heart away and ran

In your own words

You said, “Let’s not speak of feelings

Let’s not speak of feelings

I would complicate things

Let’s just enjoy the moment

Enjoy the moment”

Well so many moments we enjoyed

I called you on the phone just the other night

All those angry accusations seem so out of line

Time and time again you said that we were just friends

I hate that I let myself be so blind

I’d hate to think that this is how we will say goodbye

But can you tell me, where can we go from here, my love

Now I feel like a fugitive

As I hide from the love you give

Cause I stole your heart away and ran

I stole your heart away

Now I hide, oh I hide from the love

(That’s inside me)

Now I feel like a fugitive

Goodbye girl

written by E. Glaubitz

She’s pure and sweet like a newborn child

I’m a dirty boy who likes it wild

The pretty little princess with the bow in her hair

A “please don’t touch” sign that really isn’t fair

She’s driving me out of my mind

She’s too good, so goodbye girl

Can’t waste my time

She’s too good, so goodbye girl

But she turns me on

She’s too good, so good

She’s too good, so good

She’s too good, so goodbye girl

I take her out for a night on the town

Her perfect curves are covered by a prom gown

Oh, my friends are green with envy over her it’s true

But they don’t know part of me is turning blue

She’s driving me out of my mind

She’s too good, so goodbye girl

Can’t waste my time

She’s too good, so goodbye girl

But she turns me on

She’s too good, so good

She’s too good, so good

She’s too good, so goodbye girl

I tell her why it’s over

She says, “You don’t have a clue

Just flip this cover, I’d blow your mind”

She’s too good, so goodbye girl

Can’t waste my time

She’s too good, so goodbye girl

But she turns me on

She’s too good, so good

She’s too good, so good

She’s too good, so goodbye girl

THE STORY BEHIND THE SONGS

In the 3 years since the release of Portraits, let’s see, I broke up with my long time girlfriend Melony (for the hundredth time), had a tumor the size of a golf ball removed from my neck, had a couple of crazy but great relationships with a couple of crazy but great women, then finally ended up back with Melony (for the hundred and first time).

TRAIN WRECK: This is about a one of those aforementioned “crazy but great” relationships that I had. I knew she was a train wreck, but sometimes I like to just jump into the raging river and see where it takes me. Love this song.

THE ONE: This was written around the time that Melony and I were thinking about getting back together. It seemed nuts (and still does) but the love has always been undeniable and we have a tough time being apart for too long. This one is probably my favorite on the CD.

IT’S GOOD TO BE ALIVE: Having a golf ball suddenly grow in your neck is quite a frightening experience. The worst part was the wait to get the operation. That was a very dark couple of months for me. When it turned out to be a benign tumor, my smile immediately returned. The experience made me appreciate the smaller things in life.

I DON’T WANT TO WRITE THIS SONG: I began writing this one immediately after breaking up with Mel. Five minutes later I put the pencil down with just a title on the page. The truth was I really didn’t want to write the song, but as a songwriter you can’t let deep emotions go untapped. Oh, and by the way, it’s very tricky trying to write a song about not wanting to write a song.

NO PUSHY PUSHY CON NO PLASTICA: Me and a bunch of my friends took a surfing trip down to Costa Rica a couple years back. One of my friends told me that a Spanish dude who was working at this house gave him a warning before he left: “No pushy pushy con no plastica.” I guess he thought we were going there to bang prostitutes. When I heard the story I busted out laughing and on the spot wrote the song. During the trip I would bring my guitar to every bar that we went to and have the whole place join us in a sing along of this song. I learned later that the song lived on long after we had left. BTW this is a punkier version of the song.

I STILL HAVEN’T FOUND WHAT I’M LOOKING FOR: On the spur of the moment, many years back, while performing Desert Rain, we tagged on this U2 song. It has become a Yellowfly staple ever since.

SAIL ON: While jamming on the groove of this song at a rehearsal, the telephone rang. I immediately started singing the words to the song. They were nonsense (dummy) lyrics that I planned on changing later. The song sat on hold for months because I couldn’t figure out what it should be about. I mean I couldn’t keep those sappy dummy lyrics, could I? I was at the end of one of my relationships when we joked on the phone about getting back together for one last fling. After hanging up I realized that, holy crap, I know what “Sail on” is about. BTW 50% of the dummy lyrics made the final cut.

THE GREATEST LOVE I NEVER HAD: This one is pretty much self-explanatory. Though I never should have had this relationship in the first place, it did lead to a great title and a pretty good song. Ah, what a writer must do for his art.

RAIN: Back when the band first started, we used to close with this one. We recorded it for the Mystic Chords CD but scratched it at the last minute. Always loved this arrangement, so we rerecorded it for this CD.

GLASS SKY: We put out an EP between the Mystic Chords and Yellowfly CD’s. This was the title track. The song kind of disappeared but we always liked it, so we decided to remaster it and release it on this CD. The song was inspired by an actress I saw on TV. Don’t remember who it was or what was happening, but I do remember her sad expression and the yellow dress she was wearing struck me.

FUGITIVE: This was the final of four songs I wrote about my relationship with a certain girl. The others were “I must have you,” “Family Photographs,” and “Desert Rain.” Not bad for one relationship! After the bad break up in “Family Photo’s” we tried being friends while still continuing an intense sexual relationship (“Desert Rain”). Yeah, that’s going to work. This is about the inevitable re-break up. This song was originally slated for the Mystic Chords CD, but I felt having this one and “Evelyn’s Peace” on the same album would be too much of a downer. The same happened on the subsequent CD’s with “Hero” and “Uninvited guest.”

GOODBYE GIRL: I always wanted to write a Beach Boys type hook. In other words, sing the same line over and over in the chorus while just changing the key to keep it interesting (e.g. California Girls). This song was purely an experiment. The story is totally made up. It’s kind of corny, but it’s got a certain charm.
